Faucets, sinks, drains, and changing tables – how do you reconcile these with sustainability? For us at Armatron, it's quite simple: steel is more durable, more robust, and therefore more sustainable than ceramic. We believe in products that are long-lasting and 100% recyclable. To ensure the highest possible quality of stainless steel, we need to use new raw materials. But not exclusively – depending on the product, up to 60% of the material can be recycled! And because steel products are also lighter than ceramic, we further reduce our environmental impact during transport.
High-quality manufacturing in Switzerland and Europe
Of course, not all our products are made of stainless steel. Our changing tables and containers, for example, are made of plastics. These are even lighter than stainless steel. And the best thing is: we can have many of our products produced in Switzerland or at least in Europe! This means the transport routes for these products remain short.
Plastics are not sustainable – or are they?
We won't fool you: Of course, plastics are not sustainable. But there are simply applications that cannot be meaningfully implemented with any other material. That's why plastics are used in our changing tables. We only select plastic compounds that do as little harm as possible to the environment. But what's even more important: the plastics won't harm you. Products and materials must be completely harmless to people. In our view, the best possible solution here lies in partially recycled materials.
Water as a Resource
It always comes down to saving water. The pressure is high, as water is a very valuable resource. In fact, water consumption in the public and commercial sector is 50 percent higher than in private households. Here, each person consumes up to 200 liters daily! In hospitals, spas, and other special facilities, consumption can even exceed 500 liters per day per person. In addition, there are malfunctions that are not noticed and rectified as quickly as in private settings. How can this enormous consumption be reduced?
We have significantly reduced the flow rate of our fittings; with 3 liters per minute at the washbasin and 6 liters per minute in the shower, our fittings are very water-efficient. The water discharge is precisely metered and automatically interrupted. Our washbasin fittings only run for 7 seconds.
For the dual-flush toilets, 3 or 6 liters per flush run through the pipe, and for the urinal, the flush time is limited to 3 seconds. With these and similar revisions to our product designs, we are continuously optimizing water consumption. Water and energy can be saved – without any loss of comfort for users!
