Sustainability with our partner Delabie

Sustainability is a high priority

Moderate consumption and a new attitude towards environmentally conscious behaviour in everyday life are becoming increasingly prevalent in our society. In particular, the reduction of water and energy consumption, the purchase of organic produce from the region and the use of environmentally friendly means of transport in local public transport and in the logistics sector are making a significant contribution to greater sustainability.

Against the backdrop of economic and ecological issues and challenges, companies have an important role to play, as they can directly influence the consumption of energy and water in the manufacture of their products.

By using the right product, you can save around 90 per cent of water when washing your hands alone and thus prevent unnecessary energy wastage in the long term. In this context, it is therefore of course important to attach great importance to choosing the right equipment.

Ecological considerations take centre stage

At DELABIE, the conservation of natural resources and the control of water and energy consumption have been key challenges for more than 90 years. To ensure the highest possible level of sustainability, the company takes ecological considerations into account and combines them with design-orientated products for public areas.

Sanitary facilities in public spaces have a particularly high water consumption, which is why innovative solutions in favour of the environment are needed here. DELABIE is a pioneer in the field of an ecologically orientated economy and has developed so-called self-closing taps, for example. These high-performance products are much more efficient and sustainable in terms of energy and water savings than competing solutions from other manufacturers.

High-quality products with a green thumb

DELABIE is committed to sustainable and responsible behaviour in all areas of the company. Modern, high-quality washbasin taps, for example, have a flow rate of 1.5 to a maximum of 3 litres per minute. Most competitors bring taps onto the market for the private sector that have a water flow rate of around 6 to 12 litres per minute.

However, reducing the flow rate is not enough to ensure sustainable water consumption in the long term. At around 60 per cent, hand washing and hand soaping account for the largest proportion of unnecessary water consumption. To counteract this situation, DELABIE has developed a special system that automatically stops the flow of water between wetting and washing up.

In addition, the product developers at DELABIE are working on ever more efficient functionalities that reduce power consumption while still prioritising optimum user comfort. With this in mind, numerous taps have a light actuation system to get the water running with only extremely light mechanical pressure.

Sensible consumption through suitable solutions

The further development and improvement of the product range depends to a large extent on customer acceptance. This can only be achieved if the sanitary equipment offers a convenient solution and covers individual needs as comprehensively as possible. In addition, detailed advice is absolutely essential for this purpose. Only on this basis can sustainable concepts survive on the market in the long term.

Heavily frequented public areas, such as airports, suffer far less from water stagnation. In such a scenario, electronic taps with special hygienic flushing are not absolutely necessary. Mechanical self-closing taps are far more suitable in these areas.

However, if the focus is on minimising the risk of bacteria transmission, electronic solutions can offer far better protection from a hygiene perspective. Such installations are used for flushing toilets without manual contact, for example.

In the public sector, different requirements have to be met throughout. DELABIE has developed new, innovative technologies for this purpose. These include, for example, a so-called rush hour programme for urinals. This concept is designed to reduce water consumption when there is heavy use within a short period of time. One conceivable scenario is the half-time break at a football match.

Short flushes contribute to improved comfort. As soon as the increased visitor frequency in the sanitary facilities subsides, a thorough flush is carried out. The rush hour programme also prevents the problem of stagnant water in less used areas. For this purpose, a hygiene flush is carried out at regular intervals of 24 hours.

It is important to bear in mind that poor quality electronic taps cause a water flow rate that is 2 to 3 times higher. Compared to self-closing taps, the savings are therefore much lower than expected. For this reason, DELABIE's electronic tap solutions are also equipped with an optimised water flow in addition to the self-closing taps. When developing new products, the renowned company with the green thumb attaches great importance to minimising energy and water consumption.
